The 13th international conference on spatial information accuracy assessment of natural resources and environmental sciences was held in Beijing from May 21 to 25.The conference was sponsored by the state key laboratory of resource and environmental information system, institute of geographical sciences and resources, Chinese academy of sciences, northwest institute of ecological and environmental resources, Chinese academy of sciences, wageningen university, the Netherlands, and international association for the evaluation of spatial information accuracy.

Since 1994, the international association for the evaluation and research of spatial information accuracy has organized an international conference on the evaluation of spatial information accuracy every two years to exchange and discuss the theoretical development and practical application of spatial information uncertainty in earth science. The conference has attracted the attention of many scholars and research institutions at home and abroad, and 282 researchers and students from 8 countries and regions have registered to attend. The general assembly invited five international experts in the four fields of spatial mapping, spatial modelling, spatial inference and spatial statistics for a one-day pre-conference training session. They are internationally renowned statistician Dr Pierre Goovaerts, Dutch digital soil mapping expert Dr Tom Hengl, state university of New York professor Steve Stehman, and university of Leeds Dr Alexis Comber and Paul Harris.More than 140 students and young scholars from home and abroad participated in the training. In the course of training, the teaching experts help students quickly master the core knowledge and skills of the course through the two ways of course explanation and practical operation.

The chairman of the organizing committee of the congress is ge yong, a researcher from the institute of geographical sciences and resources of the Chinese academy of sciences. On the morning of May 22, the opening ceremony of the conference was held in the multifunctional hall of the national convention center.Liao xiao-han, secretary of the party committee of the institute of geographical sciences and resources of the Chinese academy of sciences, first gave a welcome speech to welcome experts and scholars from all over the world to attend the conference.Subsequently, zhou chenghu, chairman of the scientific committee of the conference and academician of the Chinese academy of sciences, Daniel Griffith, chairman of the international association for the evaluation and research of spatial information accuracy, and professor of the university of Texas at Dallas, and su fengzhen, director of the state key laboratory of resource and environmental information systems, delivered speeches respectively.A total of 12 well-known experts in related fields at home and abroad were invited to deliver the conference theme report. They are Yang yuanxi, academician of the state key laboratory of geographic information engineering and the Chinese academy of sciences, gong jianya, academician of wuhan university and the Chinese academy of sciences,Professor Jaime gomez-hernandez of valencia university of technology, professor tong xiaohua of tongji university, professor liang yi of Chinese university of Hong Kong, professor Lucy Bastin of aston university, professor Daniel Griffith of university of Texas at Dallas, James Smith medal winner, associate professor zhao xi of wuhan university,Professor of history and literature, Hong Kong polytechnic university; Dr. Tom Hengl, Netherlands; researcher wang jinfeng, institute of geographical sciences and resources, Chinese academy of sciences; and professor Alfred Stein, university of tunt, the Netherlands. At the same time, the conference organized 12 sub-sessions on topics such as "uncertainty in mapping", "evaluation of spatial uncertainty", "spatial sampling and interpolation", "spatial simulation and prediction" and "effect and verification of geospatial scale", with a total of 70 sub-sessions reporting. The participants actively communicated with the speakers through questions and answers, showing the achievements made in recent years in spatial precision and uncertainty, promoting the exchange of experts from various countries, and promoting the application of spatial precision and uncertainty in natural resources and environmental science.

At noon on May 24, the closing ceremony was held in the auditorium of the national convention center. The closing ceremony was presided over by Ashton Shortridge, professor, Michigan state university and the new President of the international association for the evaluation of spatial information accuracy. The winners of the student excellence paper award were Qiang Pu, state university of New York at buffalo; Peijun Sun, Beijing normal university; and Rui Zhu, university of California, Santa Barbara.Professor Gerard Heuvelink of wageningen university in the Netherlands, co-chair of the conference, addressed the closing ceremony. He summarized the achievements of the conference and expressed his expectations for the future international conference on spatial information accuracy assessment.

The international conference held by a high level of training, before the meeting invited a number of domestic and foreign well-known experts in the conference theme report, organized a rich variety of seminars, effectively enhance and improve the international cooperation and international influence in the study of Chinese space information accuracy, further promoted the geological spatial information uncertainty in the study of theory development and practical application, as well as to the earth information science and other multi-disciplinary crossover study.
